Insular Foundation expands scholarship grants to regions
The Insular Foundation, Inc. strengthened its support for the teaching profession by recently expanding its Gold Eagle College Scholarship Program. The program, which supports the college education of future teachers, now includes an additional five State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) from selected provincial cities -- thereby increasing its reach to cover more students nationwide.
The five SUCs include Aurora State College of Technology and Benguet State University for Luzon; Bohol Island State University for Visayas; and Central Mindanao University and Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology for Mindanao. These are in addition to the existing program of the Foundation with the University of the Philippines, Diliman.
Insular Foundation, one of the first corporate foundations in the country, offers college scholarship grants to students taking up Education and BS Mathematics courses, providing support in the form of payment of tuition and other fees, book allowance, transportation allowance, board and lodging, and monthly stipend.
Every year, the Foundation gives 10 grants for students enrolled in the College of Education and two grants for students enrolled in the College of Mathematics at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. Other State Universities in the provinces are given three college scholarship grants each for their students taking up Education courses. Through the Gold Eagle Scholarship Program, the Foundation aims to encourage academically gifted individuals to pursue a teaching profession so that they can help improve the quality of the next generation of Filipinos.
“We have been committed to elevating the quality of education in our country from the beginning,” said Insular Foundation Administrator Ana Maria R. Soriano. “By adding more State Universities in the provinces as our partner schools, we can help students attain a good education without leaving their hometown,” she added. Soriano also said that they encourage all their graduates to teach in their respective provinces after their schooling.
As of 2016, 20 scholars from UP Diliman graduated with honors: 8 cum laude, 11 magna cum laude and one summa cum laude. They are now giving back to society by sharing the knowledge they acquired to esteemed academic institutions in the country.
Insular Foundation, Inc. was established in 1963. Since then, it has served thousands of school children attain higher education through scholarship grants for college and technician courses. It has also helped hundreds of teachers improve their knowledge and skills through in-service teacher training, and hundreds of principals develop better interpersonal and managerial skills to run their schools.
