InLife Launches Nation of Sheroes, Encourages Filipinos to Do Acts of Kindness
As it celebrates the third anniversary of its successful Sheroes Movement, Insular Life (InLife) expands its advocacy of helping people through its Nation of Sheroes program.
“Nation of Sheroes includes not just women. Everyone can become a part of it through their SHEROISM,” said InLife Chief Marketing Officer Gae L. Martinez.
She noted that Filipinos have already shown their ability to help during the pandemic through efforts both big and small.
“We ask them to continue this and further the spirit of volunteerism throughout the country. When we work together, more things get done. When we become involved, more good things can happen. Kindness does not have to be grand. Sometimes, it’s the little things we do that make an impact in our families, communities, and our country. During this time when there is so much conflict in the world, let us do our share in making it a better place,” Ms. Martinez emphasized.
Acts of Kindness
Recently, InLife employees showed their own SHEROISM by taking part in various donation efforts. In Baguio, InLife volunteers packed and transported vegetables that they donated to the Maginhawa community pantry founded by Patricia Non, who received the 2021 Asia CEO InLife Young Shero of the Year Award.
The vegetable donation was done in coordination with Cordillera Landing on You (CLOY), a group that was established during the pandemic. It started with the aim of helping local farmers and businesses bring their produce to Metro Manila during the lockdowns.
In Muntinlupa City, InLife employees took part in preparing and delivering hygiene kits and art kits to the children of Elsie Gaches Village. Headed by Social Welfare Officer V Maria Clara P. de Guzman, the facility provides care and rehabilitation to children and adults with developmental disabilities.
In Davao, InLife brought food items and hygiene kits to House of Hope, which provides temporary lodgings to pediatric cancer patients awaiting treatment at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC). Dr. Mae Dolendo, SPMC Lead Pediatric Oncologist and House of Hope Program Director, established the halfway house to give children coming from areas outside Davao a safe space as they prepare for their medical or surgical treatment or while undergoing their chemotherapy.
Earlier this year, InLife and Insular Foundation raised PhP2 million to help families in Typhoon Odette-affected communities in Palawan, Cebu, Bohol, Dumaguete, and Surigao del Norte. Additionally, the Insular Foundation provided ₱1.02 million worth of food packages and sleeping mats. The Foundation partnered with NORFIL Foundation and the Philippine Association of Social Workers Cebu Chapter to reach out to 380 families in Mandaue City, Cebu; and with the League of Corporate Foundations to help 200 families in South Cebu. They likewise worked with the Philippine Relief and Development Services, Inc. to provide two-week food supplies for 150 families in Dinagat and Siargao islands, and Surigao.
InLife also extended assistance to its policyholders in typhoon-affected areas, as well as its building tenants in its Cebu office. These are only a few of the various acts of kindness that InLife and Insular Foundation spearheaded.
Show Your Sheroism
“There are many ways you can help improve the life of a fellow human being. Donating goods to those affected by the pandemic and typhoons is just one of them. Start in your own home and community. Find out how you can help and make the effort to do so,” Ms. Martinez encouraged.
Helping people is what the first and largest Filipino life insurance company has been doing for more than a century. InLife has been serving Filipinos through products and services that promise to deliver a lifetime for good for 111 years.
In 2019, InLife launched its InLife Sheroes campaign in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. Its aim is to recognize women as a pillar of strength and empower them.
In three years, the advocacy of InLife Sheroes has turned into a movement, with more women becoming aware of the opportunities they have at improving themselves and the lives of their loved ones and the people in their community.
Become Part of the Movement
“We are confident that like InLife Sheroes, the Nation of Sheroes will also become a movement. We have seen the willingness of Filipinos to do their own acts of kindness during the most challenging times in our history. With the Nation of Sheroes, we hope to spread kindness wherever we are and whatever our situation in life is.” Ms. Martinez said.
