What a year it has been; what a rollercoaster ride since Covid-19 hit us in 2020. And yet as we enter the second year of the pandemic, we find ourselves no longer just looking out for our own needs  and ambitions but we have also become more understanding, more caring to family, friends and even strangers. We are witnessing the heroism of so many Filipinos. 


Insular Life (InLife) believes that these stories are prevalent among our communities. That guided by the values that glue us together as a nation, values such as the love of God and country, resiliency, malasakit at pakikipag kapwa-taowe as a people can make it through any obstacles we face. 


As we celebrate the Filipino’s fighting spirit, we invite you to capture these stories that make us stand out as a people. Join Insular Life’s Video and Photo Competition and together, let’s tell that world that truly, there is “Good In Life!” 


A. The Video Competition: Creators are asked to shoot an original short film/video that explores the theme:

“The Good In Life?” 


In interpreting the theme, each entry must focus on any or a combination of Filipino values such as:


a. Resiliency 

b. Love of God and Country / others

c. Excellence 

d. Teamwork 

e. Discipline  

f. Other Filipino values/traits 


Awards and Prizes: Ten (10) entries will be shortlisted as finalists. First place will take home Php 111,000; second place is Php 60,000 and third place is Php 40,000. The remaining seven (7) finalists/entries will receive Ph 5,000 each. All prizes are tax-free.


Eligibility: Entrants must be over 18 years old. Each entrant is allowed to enter up to three (3) videos. 


Submission of Videos: Completed video/s should be in digital format (MP4, MOV). It may be sent to us via:


a. YouTube – Send us the video link to your submission at videocontest2021@insular.com.ph 


b. Online drives – You may also send your entry by sharing with us a link to your video through your google drive, one drive, or dropbox, etc. Make sure the video you are sharing is not “privacy protected” so that it can be viewed by judges. Send the link to videocontest2021@insular.com.ph 


c. Make sure that the video entry is in the aspect ratio of 16:9 



Title Screen: Entries should include a brief title screen that,


a. Indicate that the video is a submission to the contest: “The Good In Life” Video Contest”


b. Name of the entrant


c. Title of the entry/video


d. Title or the music/song/score used. The music/song/score used (if any, must be royalty-free, that is, no intellectual property right claims for use on social media, i.e. YouTube, etc.)

Title: Ang Aking Mahal na Bayan


Music: Munting Ibon (No Copyright claims, Royalty free/ or Own composition) 


Length: Videos must not exceed 180 seconds (3 mins.), excluding the title screen.


Video Equipment: Videos may be produced on any equipment available to the entrant, including cell phones, video cameras, drones, computers, or a combination of these equipment. It may be executed with or without sound, or, with or without animation.


Dates: The competition begins September 1, 2021. All entries must be submitted in digital format on or before 11 pm on November 20, 2021. Winners will be announced by Nov. 25, 2021. Winners will be notified by Insular Life by email (and the finalists will be posted via InLife’s FB page). 


Judging: Winners will be selected by a panel of judges named by Insular Life. 


Judging Criteria: The video will be judged according to:


Impact (25%) – how does it make the viewers feel. Does it evoke an emotion, or does it engage its viewers? Does it leave a lasting impression? 


Creativity (25%) – Originality in conveying the main idea or the subject matter or theme. Is it coming from a personal point of view, or does it tell a story of another? 


Style (25%) –How is the video presented from a technical standpoint? Did it use techniques or methods appropriate for the subject or content of the video. How is the technique and the narrative / concept tied together? Is the video in the correct format? 


Interpretation of the theme (25%) – Uniqueness in interpreting the chosen value/s and the imagination used to fully capture the message being conveyed. How well did the video presented a cohesive interpretation of the Filipino value/s? Is the chosen narrative type appropriate for the theme and execution? 



B. The Photo Competition: Entrants must submit original work that expresses the theme, “The Good In Life.” The submission might be a single photograph or a photo story (up to 5 photos). Any equipment may be used. Each participant may submit up to 3 photographs or photo story (each photo story is considered as one submission).


Theme: “The Good In Life” 


In interpreting the theme, photographs must focus on any or a combination of Filipino values: Resiliency Love of God and Country / others, Excellence Teamwork Discipline, other Filipino values/traits.  


Awards and Prizes*: First place – P30,000, Second place – P20,000, Third place – P10,000, Finalists (10) – P2,000 each  (*all prizes are tax free).  Winners will be announced by Nov. 25, 2021. Winners will be notified by Insular Life by email (and the finalists will be posted via InLife’s FB page).


Entry period: Original photographs taken on September 1, 2021, up until 11 pm November 20, 2021 (submit proof that photo is taken within this period). 


Eligibility: Open to Filipinos residing in the Philippines. Entrants who are under 18 years of age is required obtain permission of a parent or guardian (indicate in the submission that permission is given by parent or guardian). Contest is not open to employees or agency force of InLife or Insular Health Care.  


Photo guideline:


1. It must be an original work/photograph 

2. Full color and monochrome photos or a combination are allowed

3. Must be saved in digital format (i.e. JPEG, PNG) 

4. Minimum photo resolution is 1200pixels x 1800pixels, 150 - 300dpi 

5. Maximum of 3 submissions for each participant

6. Photo not yet submitted to other contests

7. No watermark 


Note: Winners might be asked to provide higher resolution images for publication or display purposes related to the contest.


Submission: 


Entries must be submitted in digital format to photocontest2021@insular.com.ph. For file size above 6MB, submit a link to the photo from a digital/cloud drive i.e. google drive, one drive, dropbox, etc. 


Criteria for judging:


Relevance to the theme – (40%): How well does the submission story interpret the theme.


Impact and Message of the image – (20%): does the submission able to grab and hold the viewers/judge’s attention. Does it elicit an emotion or stir a conversation? Does it clearly show its story? 


Composition and Creativity – (20%): Does the technique used matches the theme, feel and concept of the submission? How well is it presented? Did it show balance in its technical details, i.e. light, focus, depth, etc. 


Originality of the work – (20%): How is the photo different, how does the subject distinguish itself? Is the composition, subject, effects used new and original? How the entrant is able to show his/her personality and originality. 


C. Winning Entries: Entrants (Video) should be able to provide evidence that images, clips, music or score used in the entry are royalty-free. If actors are used, release forms should be provided. 


If statements of fact are presented, entrant must be able to produce evidence of the fact being cited. Insular Life may revoke or withdraw the prize if these are not satisfied. Winning entrant must also show evidence of age. 


Ownership of Submissions and Right to Use: Ownership of the underlying intellectual property of the project/videos/images/photographs remain with the entrant, with the following exceptions (this refers to all video submitted as entry): 


a. Entrants grant Insular Life the right to use their names, photographs, statements, quotes, testimonials, and video submissions for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes without notification or further compensation. 


b. Entrants also grant Insular Life the right to use, reproduce, reprint, distribute, perform, and/or display the entrant’s photographs, video on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media or digital channels without further compensation or notification to the entrant.


c. Insular Life maintains the right to reproduce, distribute, perform, display, or exhibit the photograph, video submission for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes on their website, at conferences, or at any other venues.


D. Acceptance of Rules: By entering the Video and Photo Competition, entrants give their full and unconditional agreement to these Rules.  All decisions of InLife regarding this competition are deemed final.
