Ambition coupled with determination and fueled by action can be the formula for success, even for those who do not belong to the privileged class or those who may have lost their way. This is true for the more than 200 out-of-school youth who have enrolled themselves in Tankulan Alternative Learning System-Community Learning Center (ALS-CLC) in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Their ambition is to complete their education from where they left off, because they are convinced that getting a good education is the road to a better life. This is the reason Insular Foundation chose Tankulan ALS-CLC as its fourth adopted center to support for five years through the donation of the ICT Learning package.

In partnership with Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation (CLFI) and the Department of Education (DepEd), the Insular Foundation recently donated Information Communication Technology equipment to Tankulan ALS-CLC, its first adopted center in Mindanao and fourth throughout the country.  The Foundation donated laptop, printer, television set, wi-fi router, USB, headset and wi-fi load cards to this center.

During the online launch of the support to Tankulan ALS-CLC, Insular Foundation Executive Director Ana Maria Soriano said that through ICT equipment and learning materials, the Foundation gives the learners who have stopped school for one reason or another, a second chance to complete their education. “We continue to believe that getting a good education is still the key to achieve a better life. Lahat tayo, gustong magkaroon ng mas mabuti at maginhawang buhay,” she said.

Rolly Ortiz, Jr., Education Program Specialist from DepEd, said the ICT package would help the teachers and learners achieve their learning objective on digital citizenship.

CLFI Executive Director Jonathan Batangan, for his part, expressed appreciation to Insular Foundation for sharing their advocacy of education for the less privileged. “Thank you for this most valuable partnership. We are truly honored to bring education to different parts of the country with the Insular Foundation.”

The Insular Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Insular Life (InLife), first supported the Alternative Learning System in 2019 through CLFI. The Foundation provides five-year support through the donation of ICT equipment, reproduction of modules, and provision of learning materials to Pedro Guevara Elementary School in Manila, Muntinlupa City Jail, Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City, and Tankulan ALS-CLC in Bukidnon. The three centers in Metro Manila cater to almost 1,000 learners.
