Our Beginnings

Established on November 25, 1910, Insular Life is the first and the largest Filipino life insurance company. For 90 years, Insular Life has faithfully carried out its mission to provide financial security to Filipino families. A highlight of its history is the fact that it continued operations even during World War II, earning for the Company a reputation of dependability and strength. This gave rise to the company slogan: "When someone depends on you, you can depend on Insular Life."

Reflective of its pioneering and innovative spirit, it has distinguished itself by a number of "firsts" in the industry. The Company was the first to lower insurance premium rates and the first to set up a training school for insurance. It introduced both group insurance and industrial life insurance in the country. It also pioneered in the direct marketing of life insurance. One of its most significant move was its conversion from a stock company owned by a few stockholders to a mutual company owned by policyholders.

While life insurance remains the core of its business, Insular Life also aims to become a one-stop full financial service institution. In 1990, the Company diversified into allied financial services to offer its policyholders a broader range of financial products. Within a span of three years, it established four wholly-owned subsidiaries: Insular Life Health Care, or I-Care, a health maintenance organization; Insular General Insurance Company, a non-life insurance company; Insular Investment and Trust Corporation, an investment house; and Insular Life Savings and Trust Company, better known as Insular Savings Bank.

Insular Life has again embarked on another pioneering venture with its transfer to its new corporate headquarters, the Insular Life Corporate Centre in Filinvest Corporate City, Alabang, Muntinlupa City in April 2001. The twin towers, with 33 and 29 storeys respectively, equipped with the most modern facilities embody Insular Life's faith in the country and commitment to the Filipino people, as well as its bolder and more competitive stance in the face of global competition in the new millennium.
